Israel-based functional and nutritional ingredient supplier Lycored has secured a positive scientific opinion from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for Lumenato.
Lumenato is an advanced yellow tomato extract, sourced from a unique yellow tomato breed that features phytoene and phytofluene.
Phytoene and phytofluene are rare carotenoids that protect the skin from UVB radiation.
The ingredient enhances skin health by supporting collagen, ceramides, and skin barrier function, as demonstrated in multiple pre-clinical and clinical trials.
It is available in powder, extract, and liquid emulsion formats, and offers flexibility for various applications, including nutricosmetics.
Each format provides consistent nutrient levels for reliable skin support and is verified as a non-gene-modified-organism (non-GMO) product.
The EFSA approval confirms Lumenato’s safety as a novel food, expanding its potential for inclusion in skin health solutions worldwide.
It allows brands to incorporate unique ingredients into their product offerings and explore new product developments while awaiting the EU Novel Food list update.
Founded in 1995, Lycored offers natural carotenoids for food, beverage, and dietary supplements, combining natural ingredients with advanced science to promote well-being.
Lycored Beauty from Within Portfolio global product manager Christiane Lippert said: “With this decision, Lumenato is now poised for broad acceptance across the EU, Switzerland, US, Canada, Australia, Korea, India and other countries for use in a variety of supplement products.
“Exclusively offered by Lycored, Lumenato is a remarkable innovation that helps achieve radiance and glow from the inside out and meets today’s growing demands for nature-sourced plant based, clean-label beauty from within solutions.”
