US food manufacturing company WK Kellogg has expanded its range of school-focused cereals in the US, introducing new products aimed at increasing access to nutritious breakfast options for K-12 students.

The expanded line features Kashi Strawberry Banana Loops and Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats Cocoa, both developed to meet USDA Smart Snacks criteria and school breakfast nutrition standards.

According to food manufacturer, the cereals will be available in single-serve packs suited for a range of school meal settings.

The expansion marks Kashi’s first appearance in the K-12 food service segment.

Kashi Strawberry Banana Loops contains 15g of whole grains per serving and is a source of fibre, the company statement read.

The company claims that the cereal is vegan, Non-GMO Project Verified, and made with fruit purée and vegetable juice for colouring.

WK Kellogg said its Frosted Mini-Wheats Cocoa provides seven vitamins and minerals, including iron and folate, and is high in fibre, adding that the new cereals were developed to meet “evolving health and wellness expectations among students, parents and operators.”

WK Kellogg chief wellbeing & sustainable business officer Sarah Ludmer said: “We’re excited to bring these new offerings to the school environment.

“Parents and schools are looking for foods that are nutritious, convenient and accessible, and cereal is uniquely positioned to meet those needs.

“These new offerings give kids a food they love and provide schools with a balanced option they can feel good about serving – all in service of our shared goal to help kids be their best.”
