Puratos US, a bakery ingredients provider, has added two new products to its cost-reduction line for industrial and commercial bakers.

The latest launches are Intens Fresh 3-30 Premium and Carat Compound Chunks Cacao-Trace.

Intens Fresh 3-30 Premium is described by the company as a freshness solution that supports extended shelf life and sugar reduction in breads containing more than 5% sugar.

Carat Compound Chunks Cacao-Trace is presented as a lower-cost option to conventional chocolate chunks.

Puratos US Bakery product director Michael Gleason said: “These innovations are designed to help bakers reduce reliance on costly ingredients like sugar, fat, and emulsifiers while maintaining the high standards their customers expect.

“Intens Fresh 3-30 Premium is a great example – it not only extends shelf life but also supports sugar reduction, making it a win-win for cost-conscious bakers.”

Citing findings from its “Always On Taste Tomorrow” research programme, Puratos reported that one in three consumers expects to reduce overall food expenditure in 2025. Within that, 20% plan to save on chocolate and 14% on bread.

Puratos stated that this shift highlights pressure on bakery producers to find more efficient ways to manufacture products.

The two new solutions are additions to the firm’s existing clean-label, enzyme-based range, which includes Intens Soft and Fine.

The range also features Acti Egg Reduction, an enzyme-based solution developed to cut egg usage; and Intens Puraslim, a fat-reduction ingredient formulated to preserve taste and texture.

Puratos US Chocolate product manager Drew Brandell-Mayers added said: “Carat Compound Chunks Cacao-Trace deliver the indulgent chocolate experience consumers love, while offering a more economical solution for bakers.

“They’re backed by our Cacao-Trace programme, which ensures sustainable sourcing and superior taste.”

Puratos supplies ingredients for bakery, sweet goods and chocolate applications to industrial bakeries, retailers, foodservice chains, distributors and artisan businesses.

The company’s US base is in Pennsauken, New Jersey, and its global headquarter is in Belgium.
