Jungbunzlauer has finalised the acquisition of a manufacturing site in Thomson, Illinois from International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF), marking the company’s first production facility in the US.
The Basel, Switzerland-headquartered ingredients producer said the move will place it closer to North American customers and enhance responsiveness.
Preparations at the Thomson facility are under way, with equipment installation and regulatory work commencing immediately to enable production of the company’s portfolio of naturally derived ingredients.
Jungbunzlauer CEO Bruno Tremblay said: “This acquisition is a significant step in Jungbunzlauer’s growth journey. We are proud to establish our first US manufacturing facility in Thomson, Illinois, and look forward to delivering sustainable, trusted solutions for our customers. We plan to invest in advanced manufacturing and deliver long-term value for the region, our customers and stakeholders.”
Northwest Illinois Economic Development regional director David Schmit said: “Jungbunzlauer’s reputation for responsible, quality manufacturing makes them an ideal addition to the Illinois business community. We are proud to welcome them to Thomson and look forward to supporting their growth, which will bring new, high-quality opportunities for our workforce, suppliers, and the region.”
Jungbunzlauer is known for citric acid and manufactures a broader line-up that includes mineral salts, texturants and acidulants.
It said the Illinois site, together with the recent expansion of its biogums plant in Canada, will help address rising demand in North America.
Founded more than 150 years ago, Jungbunzlauer reports annual revenue of Sfr1.3bn ($1.62bn).
Last month, it added a fully reacted magnesium bisglycinate to its minerals range, noting that the launch completes its magnesium portfolio.
