International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF), a US-based manufacturer of flavours, fragrances, and food ingredients, has announced plans to establish a new scent creative centre in Mumbai, India.

The expansion aims to strengthen the company’s operations in India’s growing fragrance market, the company said.

Located in the Powai neighbourhood, the facility is expected to become fully operational by the first half of 2026.

The centre will cover 3,650m², more than doubling IFF’s existing local footprint, and will employ over 100 people.

It will include “advanced” laboratories, “category-specific” evaluation booths, and sensory evaluation areas designed to support product development and customer collaboration.

IFF Scent president Ana Paula Teles de Mendonça said: “The Mumbai Creative Centre exemplifies IFF’s commitment to innovation and excellence in one of the world’s most dynamic markets.

“By expanding our footprint in India, we are not only bringing IFF’s world-class fragrance capabilities closer to local consumers — we are also accelerating our ability to co-create superior solutions, serve our customers with greater agility, while also empowering the exceptional talent that drives our creativity and leadership.”

IFF has been active in India for the past two decades, contributing to fragrance design and innovation, the company added.

The Mumbai investment marks a further step in expanding its geographic presence and supporting its research and creative capacities in the region.

IFF Scent for Greater Asia vice president and regional general manager Ramon Brentan added: “India’s fragrance market is evolving at an extraordinary pace — driven by rising aspirations, a love for premium experiences and a desire for scents that reflect individuality and emotion.

“Our new Mumbai creative centre is more than a facility; it’s a space where creativity meets science to craft fragrances that inspire confidence, spark joy and build lasting memories.”

Earlier in August, IFF introduced POWERFRESH ACE 2000 in the US.

The enzyme-based solution is designed to maintain bread softness and texture while improving operational efficiency for industrial bakeries.
