International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) is expanding its presence in Latin America by establishing an enzyme production hub in Argentina and launching a new application laboratory in Brazil.

The move is aimed at supporting the expansion of the company’s health & biosciences (H&B) operations across the region.

As part of the initiative, IFF is converting its Arroyito facility in Argentina into the company’s first full fermentation-based enzyme production hub in Latin America.

The company said the site will manufacture enzymes locally from the initial biological stage instead of focusing solely on downstream processing and packaging.

It added that the development is expected to strengthen supply reliability, improve operational efficiency and enable faster responses to customer requirements.

The Arroyito facility will supply enzymes used in a range of industries, including brewing, animal nutrition, biofuels and home care.

The expansion at the site is centred on fermentation technology that produces enzymes through controlled biological processes designed to deliver consistent performance under manufacturing conditions.

IFF noted that the technology also contributes to efforts to reduce the environmental impact associated with production.

Alongside the development in Argentina, the company has opened a household care application laboratory at its Innovation Centre in Brazil.

The facility is designed to allow customers to evaluate and optimise enzyme performance under local operating conditions.

According to IFF, the laboratory will focus on laundry and dishwashing applications, supporting faster testing processes, more precise formulation development and closer collaboration with companies developing cleaning products.

IFF H&B president Letícia Gonçalves said: “By bringing worldclass fermentation and application capabilities to Latin America, we are accelerating innovation for our customers and translating that into better food, more effective cleaning solutions and everyday products that improve quality of life for millions of consumers across the region.”
