4 October 2013

Vitamin Angels, a non-profit 501(c)3 organisation distributing vitamins and minerals to children and mothers in need, is launching a month-long social media campaign focused on educating the public about hidden hunger, a chronic lack of vitamins and minerals affecting approximately 1 in 3 people globally.

The campaign will operate across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Tumblr. At the center of the campaign is the Hidden Hunger Monster - an animated character designed by the organisation - who lurks in likely and even unlikely foods, causing under nutrition as a result.

"We wanted to create a Halloween campaign that is fun, yet educational. The Hidden Hunger Monster is a way for us to personify a major problemwhile staying true to our playful anduplifting voice," said Jill Agonias, Vitamin Angels' social media specialist. "Nearly 2 million children die unnecessarily from hidden hunger each year. It's a huge issue that people need to know about. The Hidden Hunger Monster helps achieve that."

Vitamin Angels aims to increase awareness among individuals about the dangers of hidden hunger, its causes, and why addressing it is so crucial in the fight against undernutrition in children. While a global problem, hidden hunger is also prevalent in the United States.

Vitamin Angels seeks to demonstrate the importance of vitamin and mineral supplementation and how the organization's efforts in distributing supplements to children under five and pregnant and breastfeeding mothers is making a difference in the fight against hidden hunger.

The Hidden Hunger Monster campaign will run October 1 through November 2. Those who want to support Vitamin Angels in its efforts to defeat the Hidden Hunger Monster and provide at-risk children with lifesaving and life changing vitamins and minerals can do so by visiting the Vitamin Angels Facebook page,Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Tumblr, or http://www.vitaminangels.org/hiddenhungerand sharing the campaign.
