Veri-te resveratrol is produced using Evolva’s innovative yeast fermentation process, which produces high purity (> 98%) resveratrol. Relying on intellectual property protected expertise, Evolva equipped baker’s yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, with the information to produce Veri-te resveratrol to a high purity of >98%.
Veri-te resveratrol offers customers a guarantee of quality together with strong scientific backing and versatility in application, which can both inspire and enable customers to develop innovative and award-winning products.
What is resveratrol?
Resveratrol (3,4’,5-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene) is a polyphenol found naturally in grapes, some berries, peanuts, wine, and other plants. In nature, it is produced by some plants in response to stress, injury, infection, or ultraviolet (UV)-irradiation. In humans, resveratrol has raised attention not only for being a very effective antioxidant but also exhibiting several complementary functions on cellular and systemic levels, leading to a plethora of beneficial health effects. Since its discovery, there are now more than 11,300 scientific papers published to date. Today, resveratrol is recognized for its beneficial effects on, amongst others, cardiovascular health, bone health, memory, skin health, blood glucose control, and oral health. Resveratrol is, therefore, widely used as a key ingredient to promote healthy aging.
Evolva’s Veri-teTM resveratrol can be used in a variety of applications, including dietary supplements, foods, beverages, cosmetics and personal care products. Veri-te has regulatory approvals in a variety of areas around the world, including Novel Foods approval in Europe. It is also self-affirmed GRAS in the US.
Resveratrol is an ingredient for healthy aging
Mitochondria are the powerhouses that make energy inside every cell in our bodies. As we age, mitochondrial function becomes slowly impaired. This leads to the decline of many systems in our body as we get older including cardiovascular, cognitive, skin and bone. Resveratrol has been shown to penetrate cells and help rejuvenate the mitochondria thus supporting healthier aging. By working at this cellular level resveratrol is able to have a beneficial effect on many parts of the body.
Resveratrol interacts with multiple molecular targets associated with inflammation and aging. Emerging research has highlighted that resveratrol follows a multifaceted approach, and its beneficial effects are based on its molecular structure, cellular, and systemic function. The main mechanisms of action reported for resveratrol:
Resveratrol supports cognitive function
Research indicates that resveratrol could be an effective ingredient in maintaining memory, processing, reasoning, and executive function of the brain that decline as we age. Some of the beneficial effects of resveratrol that have been documented are increased blood flow to the brain and improved memory performance and learning. After the completion and recent peer-reviewed publication of RESHAW (Resveratrol Supporting Healthy Aging in Women) clinical study, the impact resveratrol has on brain health is very promising. “Our observed improvement in overall cognitive performance with resveratrol (d= 0.18) could potentially reverse cognitive ageing by up to 10 years” in postmenopausal women, commented NHMRC-ARC Dementia Research Fellow Dr. Rachel Wong. “We observed an improvement in overall cognitive performance which appeared to be due to improvements in processing speed and cognitive flexibility,” said Dr. Wong, “which are critical to supporting executive function in the aging population."
Resveratrol can positively impact bone health in the aging population
Resveratrol has been shown in research studies to promote the formation of new bone-forming cells, which may lead to a beneficial effect on bone health. This action complements, rather than duplicates, the action of other bone supporting supplements, making resveratrol an essential addition in bone health management. Resveratrol has been reported to improve bone mineral density (BMD) in the lumbar spine and neck of the femur. This research also indicates that there is a reduction in the risk of a hip fracture.
Resveratrol helps maintain good cardiovascular health
Resveratrol continues to be the subject of numerous clinical studies in heart health. Results from these clinical studies suggest that resveratrol may help the body’s cardiovascular system as it ages by supporting healthy blood flow and systolic blood pressure while maintaining healthy levels of cholesterol, fasting glucose, and insulin.
Eye health is positively impacted by resveratrol
Resveratrol was found to have beneficial effects on eye health and can be a key ingredient in supporting healthy vision and eye function by counteracting the deleterious effects of oxidative stress. Resveratrol was shown to positively affect restoration of the retinal structure and improve blood flow, thereby increasing the flow of oxygen to areas of the eye deficient in oxygen. Resveratrol has also been reported to lessen the gradual retinal cell degradation caused by unbalanced blood sugar levels and associated inflammation. Resveratrol has been shown to protect retinal cells against light damage.
Resveratrol is an important ingredient for healthy skin
Resveratrol offers a powerful and scientifically-backed ingredient that can help rejuvenate and energize skin in topical creams as well as “beauty-from-within” applications. Research suggests topically applied creams with resveratrol may help reduce the intensity of age spots, improve skin elasticity and hydration, and protect against oxidative damage. In one clinical trial on the oral intake of a resveratrol blend, it was found to significantly reduce systemic oxidative stress and increase the skin’s antioxidant power. The same study suggests an improvement in skin hydration and elasticity, along with the overall appearance of skin roughness, depth of wrinkles and the intensity of age spots.
Resveratrol can be instrumental in supporting healthy blood glucose levels
Recent meta-analyses individually highlighted that resveratrol was found to help support healthy blood sugar management and insulin levels. Another clinical trial investigated resveratrol’s calorie-restriction mimicking effect and documented that resveratrol may lead to more balanced glucose, lipid, and triglyceride levels.
