US-based Willy Pete’s Chocolate Company has recalled its Almond Despair chocolate bars after discovering that almonds were not listed in the ingredient statement.
The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection’s Food and Standards Division (DCP) issued a notice about the recall, warning consumers with almond allergies or sensitivities of the potential danger.
As per the DCP, the packaging incorrectly lists macadamia nuts instead of almonds.
People with almond allergies or severe sensitivities could experience serious or potentially life-threatening reactions if they consume the affected products.
The recalled Almond Despair bars weigh around two ounces (oz), come in purple wrappers, and carry universal product code (UPC) 0 987261 5.
The products were sent to these locations, including Curioporium, 168 Centre St, Suite 101, Southington, Connecticut (CT); Puckerbutt Pepper, 1376 Broadcloth St, Suite 102, Fort Mill, South Carolina (SC); and Army Barracks, 30 Broadway, Saugus, Massachusetts (MA).
According to the press release, there have been no reported illnesses associated with eating Almond Despair chocolate bars so far.
Customers who bought the affected bars from Willy Pete’s Chocolate Company are advised to return them to the retailer for a full refund.
In October, Kroger recalled its Basil Pesto Bowtie Salad and Smoked Mozzarella Penne Salad, sold in multiple US states, after a supplier warning about potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
The recall coincided with a broader federal investigation into a multistate Listeria monocytogenes outbreak linked to ready-to-eat meals.
The probe was being led by the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
