Last county in England without a McDonald’s opens restaurant

8 April 2021

Rutland is the smallest county in England with a population of only 35,000. The launch was met with disapproval by some local residents, but Oakham’s mayor David Romney, who officially opened the restaurant, praised the move.

“There were no planning grounds for this not to go ahead and I think, in terms of the employment and visitors it will provide, it will be a win-win situation for the town,” he said.
