The Hershey Company has finalised its purchase of US-based snack producer LesserEvil, adding an organic, “bold” flavour-focused brand to its snacking line-up.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The transaction brings a better-for-you snack business into Hershey’s portfolio and increases its in-house manufacturing capacity.

LesserEvil operates across multiple snack categories and is recognised for its emphasis on organic ingredients and “interesting, bold flavours”.

Its range includes organic popcorn and puffs made with ingredients such as organic, unrefined, extra virgin oils.

The Hershey Company president and CEO Kirk Tanner said: “The addition of LesserEvil expands our portfolio of loved brands to meet growing consumer needs and occasions.

“Through strategic investments and product innovation, we’re delivering more of what consumers want in their lives—from better-for-you options to indulgent treats.”

LesserEvil CEO Charles Cortistine said: “At LesserEvil, our mission has always been to create delicious, organic snacks that inspire mindful snacking.

“This partnership will empower us to grow our vibrant culture, expand our reach to new consumers, and make an even greater impact together.”

The brand will sit alongside Hershey’s confectionery names, including Hershey’s, Reese’s and Jolly Rancher, as well as its expanding salty snacks business, which features SkinnyPop, Dot’s Homestyle Pretzels and Pirate’s Booty.

Hershey said the growing salty snacks portfolio reflects a selective investment approach aimed at brands that introduce “newness” and “generate excitement” in segments it sees as underdeveloped.

The company reported that its salty snacks portfolio grew 1.5 times faster in 2024 than its average rate over the previous three years.

LesserEvil’s existing leadership team will remain in place following the acquisition.

According to Hershey, combined teams from both businesses will work together on “category-leading growth” and on enhancing category insights to ensure products reach appropriate channels and locations at the right time.

The company also indicated that maintaining the current standard of “high-quality organic ingredients” in LesserEvil’s products will be a priority under the new ownership.

LesserEvil snacks are distributed through major retailers across the US.
