The Kraft Heinz owned Heinz has introduced a squeezable gravy format in the US market, positioning it as a condiment for post-Thanksgiving meals.
According to the company, the new “Heinz Leftover Gravy” is a 12oz bottle of Heinz Homestyle Turkey Gravy repackaged in a squeeze bottle and promoted specifically for leftover sandwiches.
The concept is inspired by the “Moist Maker”, a leftover-filled sandwich made popular by a 1990s television sitcom.
The launch is aimed at millennial hosts and aligns with the brand’s focus on the gravy category during the peak holiday season.
The company said that shoppers who purchase a jar of Heinz Homestyle Turkey Gravy via Walmart can receive a limited-edition Heinz Leftover Gravy Kit while stocks last.
The kit contains a squeezable bottle and a recipe card for what the brand calls the “Ultimate Thanksgiving Leftovers Sandwich”.
Heinz said the gravy is prepared with real turkey broth.
According to the brand, the initiative is intended to make assembling leftover sandwiches easier and to encourage use of Heinz Homestyle Turkey Gravy beyond the main holiday meal.
HEINZ US associate director of brand communications Jamie Mack said: “While HEINZ Gravy has always been a fan favourite on the Thanksgiving table, we decided to focus our attention on the day after ritual—because we all know leftovers are the best part and our unmistakably rich and smooth gravy makes them that much better.
“A social media favourite among millennial sitcom-lovers, the Moist Maker epitomized an obsession with holiday food crafted with care and detail. Now, HEINZ is celebrating the fans who share an irrational love of the nostalgic sandwich by providing the key to a delicious day-after sandwich: HEINZ Leftover Gravy.”
Earlier this month, Kraft Heinz-owned Kraft Mac & Cheese introduced a limited-run Apple Pie flavour in the US ahead of Friendsgiving and Thanksgiving.
The variant pairs Kraft Mac & Cheese’s creamy pasta with cinnamon and tart green apple notes associated with traditional apple pie.
