US-based food company Campbell’s has unveiled its plans to phase out the FD&C (foods, drugs, and cosmetics) colours from its product range by the second half of the 2026 fiscal year.
The company said that products with FD&C colours will be phased out as current inventory is sold, ensuring a smooth transition to the new formulations.
The move aligns with a broader industry trend of shifting towards natural ingredients.
Also, it comes as the company seeks to address consumer demand for simpler, recognisable components in food products, said Campbell’s.
According to the company, the transition will affect a variety of products, including Lance crackers and V8 Splash product lines.
The products will start using natural colour sources, such as annatto and purple carrot juice concentrate.
Regional snack brands such as Jay’s, O-Ke-Doke, and Tom’s, along with cookie brands like Archway and Stella D’oro, will also undergo the change, said Campbell’s.
The company has been gradually adopting natural colours over the years, with products like Goldfish crackers already using plant-based colours for over 15 years.
The decision is part of an ongoing review of the company’s portfolio in response to evolving consumer preferences and regulatory changes.
Campbell’s said that the initiative aligns with its commitment to providing food that aligns with consumer expectations while maintaining quality.
