During the Integrative Healthcare Symposium held last week in New York, Professor Teodoro Bottiglieri - director of the Center of Metabolomics at Baylor Research Institute in Texas - gave an interesting speech on the Role of Folate and S-adenosylmethionine in Neuropsychiatric Disorders, which drew the attention of a large public.

The event was actively attended by participants, thus confirming the great concern in this specific topic, and was an opportunity to reiterate the extraordinary features of Quatrefolic®, the glucosamine salt of (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate, structurally analogous to the reduced and active form of folate, able to support and regulate the methylation cycle ensuring a higher folate uptake.

The speech has provided a broad perspective on the role, efficacy and safety of Adonat® (S-adenosylmethionine -SAMe) in the treatment of mood impairment, neuropsychiatric disorders and co-morbid medical conditions.

Prof. Bottiglieri, as a leading expert of One Carbon Metabolism, described symptoms and causes of folate deficiency and, supported by the results of several clinical trials, explained the essential role of B vitamins and methyl-group donors to reduce specific disease states and especially neurodegenerative disorders.
