Prof. Diego Ingrosso and Prof. Alessandra F. Perna, the authors of the book, work both at the University School of Medicine & Surgery “Luigi Vanvitelli” in Naples, Italy. Diego Ingrosso is Professor of Clinical Biochemistry and Clinical Molecular Biology in the Department of Precision Medicine. His main scientific interest is the one carbon metabolism and sulfur amino acid metabolism in health and disease. Alessandra F. Perna is Professor of Nephrology and works in the Department of Medical Translational Sciences and her principal area of interest is uremie toxicity (homocysteine, and other sulfur compounds).
Aim of this monograph is to provide a summary of folate metabolism, functions and relevant disease states together with an update of the related new science on the 5-MTHF. A dedicated Quatrefolic® chapter highlights the main steps of Quatrefolic® development and the main advantages of the glucosamine salt of 5-MTHF, a "finished" folate that the body can immediately use without any kind of metabolization, able to support women’s, physical health and mental wellbeing. About Quatrefolic®
Quatrefolic®, Methylfolate ((6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate or 5-MTHF glucosamine salt) is the biologically active form of folic acid. With certain inherited errors in metabolism and under a variety of physiologic stresses, the transformation of folic acid into the active form of folate either does not properly take place or is inadequate. Unlike folic acid, this form of folate can cross the blood-brain barrier. Methylfolate is needed to support cardiovascular and neurologic health and proper cell division.
