We produce water-soluble and fat-soluble extracts to fully capture the health benefits of the pollen. Our pollen extract consumer products are delivered as tablets in bulk or in consumer packaging with your choice of labelling. Our strong position is the result of 50 years of research and development in source materials and manufacturing processes.

Pollen extraction - an extensive production process

Allergon has a proven track record of successfully collecting large quantities of pollen. Our standard operating procedures guarantee consistent manufacturing quality. This is essential for reproducibility. We comply with cGMP, thoroughly document all production changes, and perform risk analysis and verification before implementation; major changes are confirmed by our customers. Allergon is certified according to ISO 9001:2008. We are continuously inspected by the Swedish MPA.

Pollen extraction in detail

Step 1: Choice of seed and quality control
The first step in the production of Allergen pollen extract is the testing of seeds in our Quality Control laboratory to establish identity, purity and germination percentage before using the seed. No genetically manipulated species are ever used.

Step 2: Cultivation and rigorous land control
Allergon cultivates hundreds of acres of land located in southern Sweden, offering prime conditions for the production of pollen. Allergons conform to current Good Agricultural Practices. The optimal time for planting, largely determined by the weather, is planned in detail. The control of soil nutrients and quality ensures that the use of pesticides can be kept to a minimum.

Step 3: Harvesting at exactly the right time
Thanks to our long-standing experience and deep knowledge we are able to determine exactly when it is the best time for harvesting to receive the most nutritional pollen. This might be a short period of one day, or a couple of days. Harvesting takes place as close as possible to the point in time when it would be natural for the pollen to be dispersed. Should the pollen grains already have left the plant, it is too late and it will not be possible to harvest again until the next year. Harvesting is done using state-of-the-art equipment, leading to the successful collection of large quantities of pollen of the correct species.

Step 4: Careful extraction and spray-drying
The first step in the production of Allergon pollen extract is the extraction of the desired health-giving components and the reduction of allergenic components. This is achieved by our controlled, standardised extraction process that separates the water-soluble nutrients of the pollen content from the pollen shells at the same time as the allergens of the pollen are heavily reduced. Filtration and sterile filtration ensures product integrity. The water-soluble extract is mixed with a carrier substance and spray-dried into a powder. The fat-soluble nutrients are recovered during an optional second extraction of the pollen grain. The fat-soluble extract is a paste.

Step 5: Quality control of identity, purity and other parameters
Each batch is tested according to their specifications and with regard to the stringent demands of Herbal Medicinal Products. In order for any batch to be released for sale, all parameters must match the levels stated in the specification. Certificate of Analysis is available with every pollen extract batch.
