Benjamin Hawlik: Mycotrition, which is based in Strasslach, near Munich, Germany, was founded to procure medicinal mushrooms for further processing in excellent quality and at fair prices. Behind the new company is Hawlik Health Products, Europe's leading medicinal mushroom company. More than 1,000t of medicinal mushrooms are processed every year by Hawlik Health Products to make extracts and powders, and, having outsourced the raw materials field, the company is now able to specialise in looking after business customers.
The medicinal mushrooms for the Mycotrition products have a long journey behind them before they go on the market in Europe, and for good reason. In China - the original home of the medicinal mushrooms - they are still grown today on carefully managed farms in the best climatic conditions, as naturally as possible, and away from environmental influences.
Our medicinal mushrooms are grown in the provinces of Fujian and Jiangxi in the Chinese uplands on selected, trusted farms with which the company has long-standing partnerships. At least three times a year, I personally view the production conditions and the on-site procedures for drying, pulverising and extraction.
Thanks to their positive properties, medicinal mushrooms are an option for a whole variety of other applications. They can be combined with additional vitamins, minerals or even plant-derived active substances as part of an ortho-molecular nutritional strategy. However, as precisely dosed powders or extracts the mushrooms can also add special health boosts in, for instance, coffee or tea, energy drinks, soups or smoothies, muesli bars, cookies or chocolate.
Besides use in food, it is also possible to supplement valuable components in the field of cosmetics. Specifically, formulations in creams, lotions and bath additives, as well as decorative cosmetics, are conceivable.
The entire manufacturing process for Mycotrition products is subject to strict certification and continuous control, so that every individual batch can be traced seamlessly. In China, and following the arrival of the powder and extracts in Germany, independent laboratories verify the identity and purity of the raw materials.
They also ensure that all limit values - for instance, those relating to heavy metals, pesticides, microbiology, radioactivity and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons - are abided by.
The company consistently relies on detailed analyses and does not limit itself to samples. Following testing of the Mycotrition products, the independent laboratory group Agrolab awarded its seal as a sign of flawless high quality.
In order to continually improve the quality of our extracts, new extraction methods are researched and developed in collaboration with German experts.
For the nutrition and the cosmetics sectors, there will be a growing number of special raw materials in the future that are only offered on the market in this form by Mycotrition.
In close collaboration with its farms, Mycotrition will also develop cultivation in order to add new raw materials to its product range, such as Shiitake D2 powder, which will soon be ready for the market and is characterised by its very high natural vitamin D2 content.
Mycotrition's service in the field of contract manufacturing is also being expanded. A growing number of customers entrust us with their product development and production of capsules, sachets or liquid products.
Besides numerous production sites in Germany, our production facility for dietary supplement products near Salzburg, Austria, plays an important role.
Mycotrition is able to cope with the increasing number of small-to-medium batch sizes using adapted machinery and short paths for a smooth process from product development to delivery.
