Modern society increasingly demands healthy, sustainable and clean label products from the food and beverages industry. People want natural products, without chemical additives or preservatives, but they also want information regarding how, where, when and who manufactured or farmed the items. For this reason, a commitment to ethical and sustainable products and processes is a must for manufacturers in order to remain competitive. They must clearly identify their ingredients, production systems and supply chain, and must engage with environmentally responsible packaging.
Handary was founded in 2009 by entrepreneur and current president Dr Aimin He. With its nine years of know-how and expertise, the company is a pioneer in the production of bio-based vegetal preservatives such as lysozyme, lactic acid bacteria, plant extracts, natamycin, e-Polylysine, nisin and their derivatives.
The company won the 2010 IFT Expo Innovation Award for its NisinA natural antimicrobial agent - a vegetable-based natural product that eradicated the allergy issues associated with traditional animal-sourced nisin - for which it garnered respect and repute from the industry, and the trust of users worldwide.
Three years later, in 2013, the development of a highly effective biodegradable active antifungal film - commercialised under the trademark Antipack AF - earned the company the Highly Commended Award at Gulfood Expo in Dubai.
Handary uses natural raw materials and sustainable advanced technologies to provide a wide range of label-friendly and clean label solutions for several applications in the food industry, including bakery, beverage, culinary, dairy, fruit and vegetables, meat poultry and seafood, and healthcare. It considers its clients and distributors alike as allies and partners of the company with win-win results coming from collaborations. The relationships established are done through three essential pillars: honesty, transparency and trust.
A major concern of the end consumer is the eradication of artificial additives. As alternatives to ingredients such as ascorbic acid and potassium sorbate, the company offers clean label solutions such as citrus fruit and mushroom extracts, cultured sugar and vinegar. The potential benefits of these solutions allow Handary to provide plant-based and vegetal-sourced products as effective alternatives to chemical preservatives to prolong the shelf life of perishable food.
Essential to the success of the company is the combination of deteriorating-quality diagnostics, nature protective ingredients and legitimacy. The demand for natural alternatives to chemicals is huge in the food and beverage industry, as they reduce waste and lower the risk of deteriorating food quality. Since its beginning, the corporate mission of Handary has been clear and unique: to improve the optimal durability of food and beverages in order to reduce wastage worldwide (between 10-35%).
The solutions that Handary provides answer major challenges in the food industry - including discoloration, flavour discrepancies, texture changes, nutritional loss and health risks - and extend the shelf life and quality of consumables by leveraging the purest natural ingredients along with natural processes, advanced laboratory tests and industry experience.
