For more than 20 years, proFagus, a well-known manufacturer of high-quality products made of beech wood, has also been producing purified smoke condensates. The raw ingredients from which proFagus Pure Smoke are made are produced directly from natural grown, sustainably forested and certified beechwood of the region in the middle of Germany.
It's our goal to create the best and purest products. That's why we use the environmentally friendly retort process. By extracting gas, acids and tar during carbonization, only charcoal with a very high carbon level remains in the retorts. The separated extracts are purified and processed elaborately into high-quality products like Acetic Acids, Taroil, Grit, and proFagus Pure Smoke.

The main application methods for our proFagus Pure Smoke are atomisation (vaporising the liquid to regenerate the smoke), drenching (coating products with liquid solutions for consistent flavour and colouring) and direct admixture (adding flavourings directly into products like meat emulsions, cheese, or snacks). Although they are still in use and popular in the food industry, conventional smoking techniques - such as sawdust and shavings - are not an option for sustainable and certified large-scale production in the long term. Especially in terms of environment and health benefits as well as energy and cost savings, more effective ways of smoking are required. Therefore more and more producers of smoked foods are changing their procedures to work with regenerated smoke instead. The reasons for this are strikingly simple: The results are convincing, reliable and sustainable. With conventional smoke, the finished products can turn out differently each time - regenerated Smoke from Pure Smoke minimises these fluctuations to nearly zero.

Our retorts enable proFagus to extract the full taste of beech wood smoke directly from the carbonisation process. The use of certified and natural beech wood, which is obtained from the necessary thinning of sustainably grown regional forests, is an essential feature of all proFagus products. Complex purification processes ensure a high degree of purity in all products: carbonated charcoal for BBQ fans on one hand, high-quality products such as acetic acid, tar oil, grit for the industry and Pure Smoke for smoking on the other. By using all material flows, we reduce waste to a minimum and utilise the processed wood by about 99%.
However, proFagus does not rest on that, and continues to optimise all processes involved. The newly built on-site evaporation plant uses state-of-the-art technologies to ensure a consistently high product quality while multiplying production capacities for exquisite smoke flavours. Despite increasing demand, this ensures the necessary delivery quantities.
